Frag Farm

While cataloging the quaint Staten Island neighborhood of Tottenville, I was delighted to encounter a shop covered in a mural depicting an underwater habitat and the tagline “Growing Corals is Our Thing.” Frag Farm is the brainchild of rare coral specialist Frank Fairechio, who cultivates coral fragments, or “frags” himself, including rare torch and hammer specimens. There’s more than just tanks of glowing coral behind this mysterious facade, though — also find a rotating selection of unique tropical fish.
