Acclaimed designer John Derian is best known for his made-in-NYC decoupage objects, which take many forms — paper weights, pencil cups, paper weights — and feature vintage images of all sorts, from old NYC maps to botanical illustrations. Three neighboring storefronts on east 2nd street make up this little enclave of interior delights. The first, John Derian Company stocks mostly decoupage, Astier de Villette products, food-shaped decorative candles, and stationery from London shop Choosing Keeping. The second, John Derian Drygoods is where you’ll find larger items like rugs, textiles, mirrors, wall art and planters. Finally, the third acts as a showroom for the John Derian line of furniture. A well-rounded universe, indeed, and one that is aesthetically gentle, floral and quaint in a way that’s more New England than it is British. Imagine a lived-in country house owned by the most effortlessly stylish person you know. This person shops at John Derian.
