This particular stretch of Utica Ave is a feast of activity. Grocery stores overflowing with tropical fruits, auto repair shoes, furniture dealers — it’s an overwhelming area, and an important thoroughfare for vehicles. Amidst it all is a shop I wasn’t expecting to find: Paul Discount Shoes, with its window displays lined with perfect rows of pumps. Need a particular color for a wedding or a prom outfit? This is the place. Most of what’s for sale here are heeled sandals and classic closed-toe pumps in every possible color and pattern — I was particularly drawn to a pair in black and white polka dot satin — while still being comfortable, under $100 and with friendly service to boot.
