In 1975, to drum up interest in their kitchen supply area, Zabar’s sold 200 Cuisinart food processors in 2 days by slashing the MSRP by a whopping $55. Cuisinart cut them off, Zabar’s sued, and the whole thing became a brilliant PR mess. To this day, Zabar’s is still the leading retailer for small kitchen appliances in Manhattan with Vitamix blenders, colorful Moccamasters, and yes, Cuisinart food processors occupying a couple of aisles on the upper floor of the shop. They also stock an incredible selection of flatware, specialty tools and decorative tableware. Don’t miss the line of Zabar’s-branded products, including cute beeswax wraps printed with illustrations of classic Zabar’s products.
